The Standover Man, is a book written and illustrated by Max. He wrote on the painted pages of the Mein Kampf. He gave it to her as a birthday present, and it is seen as a sign of friendship. The booklet is about Max's life and all the people who have stood over him, hence the name the Standover Man. He mentions Liesel's friendship at with this quote, "Now I think we are friends, this girl and me." (pg.205) He also writes, "It makes me understand that the best standover man I've ever known is not a man at all..." (pg.205) The best standover woman/man is Liesel.
Faust the Dog and The Lighthouse are the two books that Liesel received from Hans, for her birthday. Hans got them by trading eight cigarettes for each book.
The Complete Duden Dictionary and Thesaurus are given to Liesel from Ilsa Hermann. Ilsa leaves it at the window for Liesel to steal, and she watches as Liesel takes it and bikes away. Before Liesel bikes out of sight the share a short wave. This two book or a peace offering, and a way to fix their friendship and heal to wounds the have put on eachother.
